The latest in Columbus
The tangled web in Columbus continues to get more bizarre.
Management has offered a contract settlement but only if the musicians agree to betray their music director. Yet another board member reveals their ignorance and indifference this time in the Wall Street Journal. Executive Director Tony Beadle continues to blurt without thinking, waving his finger at the Maestro for not living in town, while he himself holds main residence in Boston.
Didn't his Mommy tell him that when you point a finger at someone, three fingers point back at yourself?
If it wasn't so damn tragic this would be quite funny, once again proving that truth can be stranger than fiction. The blogosphere continues to be on the alert with intense discussion.
A Pointed Commentary
Posted on The Buzzing Reed a few days ago, this letter from David Lundberg is probably the most logical narrative I have ever read as to why a symphony orchestra is vital to a city's growth.
Beyond the usual arguments of civic pride and cultural enrichment, Lundberg takes a pointed stab at the heart of the matter. While his letter relates topically to the current situation in Columbus - where the orchestra has been locked out by its management - it's themes are universal to any community.
He writes:
"Traditionally, it has been the large corporations that the Symphony has turned to for regular, long-term support. Unfortunately, that is how a small group of corporate funders and board members have come to assume the power to speak for the entire community regarding the future of this rare community treasure. And amazingly, power that seems entirely disproportionate to their monetary contributions."

A New Community Blog
Buzzing Reed author David Thomas has setup a new blog of interest called simply, Columbus Symphony Musicians Blog. It is set up for anyone to post blogs and comments on all things CSO.
It is worth checking out; the posts so far have been very thoughtful and insightful.

More Artwork
I hope to post some more satirical artwork soon (as I have done before).
The dilemma being that there are so many bizarre things going on with this mess that it is very hard to pick one scenario to poke a finger at!

If it is possible for Tony Beadle to fit TWO feet into his mouth, he has just done so here:
